The Museum of South Texas History first opened its doors in 1967 as the Hidalgo County Historical Museum in the old Hidalgo County Jail.

Business that keeps pipes clear saw cash flow dammed

Using magnets to treat hard water or to clean a swimming pool sounds a lot like snake oil, Mag-Tek Inc.’s CEO Jerry Davis acknowledges.
And, honestly, most of the devices on the market — some that promise to prevent white residue from forming on the shower head and others that advertise magnets to increase fuel mileage in a car — don’t work, Davis continued.

But his device, a metal pipe encased by rare earth magnets can do some of that and even more, Davis said from his trailer office alongside the company’s Edinburg factory. Once a promising startup, Mag-Tek is a shadow of its former self.

After a series of mishaps and missteps, Davis is trying to return the company to its former success with the same technology that once led them to open offices in Dallas and Dubai.
